Beryl Burman Collection

Beryl Burman and her husband Alan took part in Northampton Carnival for many years after moving to Northampton in 1955.

Alan became interested in carnival as he was part of the Abington Photographic Club and they would be visited by the Carnival Court each year to have their photographs taken. Alan's father was from Northampton and was also very keen on carnival.

Alan worked for the Chronicle and Echo for 30 years and wrote their County Tales column. He also created the calenders for the Chronicle and Echo, as well as writing and publishing books on the history of Northampton.

Alan designed and made all the costumes he and his wife Beryl are shown wearing with the exception of the ape outfit.

Beryl also collected the 1965 Northampton Carnival programme. A copy of this can be seen in The Northampton Museum Collection.
