Carnival time again! For the past four years Northampton has missed the fun and colour which the Carnival Parade used to bring to its streets and parks, ever since the first cycle Parade was organised in 1897 in aid of Northampton General Hospital.
Meanwhile the Rotary Club of Northampton, which devotes itself to serving the community in a variety of ways has been anxious to encourage and support those local voluntary organisations which are caring for our old people. Old age cannot be cured or prevented, but it can be brightened and made more comfortable. Much is already being done in Northampton and more will be possible when funds are available.
The Rotary Club and the Hospital Week Committee have decided that now is the time and here is a worthy occasion for a revival of the Carnival Parade. They have been greatly encouraged by the enthusiasm of a large and willing band if helpers, and by the ready co-operation of local tradesmen, business firms and voluntary organisations, to all of whom they extend their warmest thanks.
The stage is set for Northampton’s brightest, biggest and best Carnival Parade. Its success must now depend on the response which will be made by the many thousands of people who will enjoy the spectacle.
H.G. Lewis President, Rotary Club of Northampton. W.T. Grose Chairman, Northampton Hospital Week Committee.
