Parent groups were involved in the preparations for carnival by geting them to take responsibility for designing and making the banner. In this nursery school a group of Asian mothers who were being supported in learning English met with a worker from the school to design a banner on the theme 'Moving on'. This theme was chosen by the school because due to building of Oplympic site some of the school community were being relocated. The parent group interpreted the theme in relation to their own journeys from another country to the UK. They used a variety of craft and fabric techniques in the making of the banner, some of which drew on their community based and family knowledge.
