Description

Children designing and making their own costumes was an essential tenet of the work done in Lambeth and Wandsworth schools during their carnival development projects. Nadella Benjamin, masquerade designer from Trinidad, had already worked with this class to discuss the main elemnts of costume and important features of costume design. The costumes were based on children's history curriculum study of ancient African kingdoms. Here a boy is designing the collar of his costume.Children learn more if they go through the entire process from concept to design to making and performing rather than just putting on a costume made by an adult for them.
