Alexander D Great, calypsonian and teacher works in many schools and took part in the London Arts Board funded project on Carnival Arts in primary schools in Lambeth and Wandsworth during 2002.He has since returned several times to work with children in these boroughs and also on a Drugs Education project 'Calypso for a Health school' in 2003 which involved him working in 5 primary schools in Southwark and in Trinidad.
He insists that children compose their own calypsos round an agreed theme and they work in small groups to do this.This project was fully documented in film and interview data and the evaluation report was written by Celia Burgess-Macey and is available from her.There is a DVD of the children performing their calypsos.
