Festival of events to celebrate St Patrick

St Patrick’s Festival is in full swing…
Parade Day Yesterday on Saturday, March 15, started with the annual church service at Our Lady Help of Christians in Castle Street.
Festival chairman Michael Maguire said: “This year has an added cultural dimension with the collaboration of the local Polish Community”.
In preparation for this year’s festival and for the second year running the Luton Irish Forum has given storytelling workshops on the life of St Patrick across primary schools, one of which was relayed in Polish.
Mt Maguire said: “On Monday (March 17), the Arndale Centre will vibrate to the sound of traditional song and dance.
“The spirit Irish culture will once again flood the halls of The Mall with melodies from the harp and violin and the tap of feet from local dancing schools”
At Market Hall there will be an outdoor stage offering music and dance, alongside an Irish market offering food and other goods.
Alongside the other festival events will be two nights of entertainment at The Library Theatre.
Today (March 16) offers an evening of Music from the Fabulous Duffy Brothers who will be supported by Jon Brookes School of Dance and a traditional group.
On Tuesday (March 18) filmgoers will be treated to a double feature film night. The Irish film ‘Once’ which stars The Frames singer Glen Hansard and Hear my Song which is based around the legendary Irish tenor Josef Locke. The film showing starts at 7.30pm and tickets are £5.
