Failte- Welcome
Welcome everybody to Luton’s 5th Annual St Patrick’s Festival/Parade. Building on the great success of 2003, we have extended our Festival Programme this year from three to seven days. We have acquired the Library Theatre to put on films, concerts and drama. See our fliers for details and tickets availability. A warm welcome to Cllr Michael Dolling Mayor of Luton, Cllr E A Gilchrist Mayor of Houghton Regis and Cllr Jim Anklesaria Mayor of Dunstable.
This year , leading our parade, we welcome from Dookinella (Co. Mayo) the Memorial Pipe Band. Farrell Gallagher, a Lutonian since 1953, was a founder member of the band way back in 1948, and has also been an active member of the Mayo Association and the Irish since their foundation.
From Luton making their third appearance at our festival we have another pipe band, and one of the finest in the country- The Luton University Pipe Band. From Galway we welcome the Abbeyknockmoy Set Dancers who have won trophies all over Ireland.
They will be supported by other bands and associations from Luton and district, all dressed to ‘kill’ in their colourful costumes. SO come on down and join in the fun of their great Family day organised by the Luton Irish Forum. As Chair I would like to say a special thank you to the St Patrick’s Committee for the long hours they have volunteered to make this a great day for the people of Luton
My thanks also to our sponsors, Luton Borough Council, Luton Town Centre Management, Luton Police, Luton Library, Luton Arts, The Arndale Management for their support and encouragement.
Slainte
Michael Maguire
Chairman, St Patrick’s Festival & Parade.
