‘The Carnival Spirit’
Police at Norhtampton Carnival were instructed to ‘get into the spirit of the thing…’ and PC Adrian Baxter obliged by supping lager during a thirsty afternoon’s work.
Carnival committee treasurer Tony Tasker is confident that the phenomenal crowds at this year’s Sunday event will mean an increase in the amount of money raised for local charities.
“We’ve no idea as yet how much money was raised” he said “but it looks like more than we had last year”.
The 1984 Carnival raised £6, 834 while around £9,000 was raised in 1983.
Mr Taker said that the switch to a Sunday had been a resounding success all round.
