Forward. The Northampton Cart and Horse Parade was instituted under the auspices of the Royal Society for the prevention of cruelty to animals. The committee note with pleasure the great interest local horse owners, drivers, horse keepers, etc., take in the care and treatment of their animals. The parade is primarily for the purpose of rewarding and encouraging those who have consistently proved kind to the animals under their care. Apart from the smartness and general appearance, the principal test of merit is the condition and cleanliness of the animal. No additional credit is given for expensive or elaborate harness. The driver's ability to make the best of the equipment at his disposal is the chief consideration. Every opportunity is taken to inculcate in the men a spirit of kindliness and care for their horses in their charge. The parade is supported entirely by voluntary subscriptions. The promoters’ desire to place on record their grateful appreciation of all who have in any way contributed to its success. The committee appeal to the Town and County Authorities and Surveyors to do all they can to minimise the serious danger arising from the slippery roads. They thank the drivers, horsekeepers, etc., for the great amount of extra work and they put in, in order to make the parade a success.
