Carnival Cheques Presented, 20th November 1968

Description

The Northampton Carnival Committee presented cheques totalling £1,520 to representatives of Northamptonshire organisations and clubs. The donations were from money collected during the Carnival parade and were handed over in the Board Room of the Northampton General Hospital, last night.

Cheques were presented by the reigning Carnival Queen Mrs. Shirley Maden and her ladies-in-waiting Miss Marilyn Haisman and Mrs. Susan Pettitt. A donation of £200 to the Northampton and District Hospital Management Committee was given to the vice-chairman of the committtee, Mr. A. Allebone, by Alderman E. F. Tompkins, chairman of the Carnival committee.

Alderman Miss Ruth Perkins, Mayor of Northampton, received two cheques, each worth £50, for her SOS Appeal for disabled girls and the Mayoral Christmas Fund for the Bedridden.

Donations were made to: St. Crispin Hospital Management Committee (£100), Bethany Homestead, Methodist Homestead, St. Chistopher's Home, St.George's Home, St. George's Homestead (all £60), Northampton and District Marriage Guidance Council, Northampton Good Samaritan Society, Nelson Hall Social Service Centre, British Red Cross Society (northamptonshire Branch), St. John Ambulance Brigade (Northampton Corps), Northampton Y.M.C.A. (£50).

Northampton Old People's Voluntary Welfare Committee, Boys' Brigade, Girl Guides, Girls' Brigade, Scouts, Y.W.C.A. Roadmender Club, British Leigon (Northampton Committee), Northamptonshire Association of Youth Clubs, Northampton Sea Cadet Corps, Northampton Girls' Nautical Training Corps (all £30).

Northampton Council Children's department, Northamptonshire Regimant Comrades' Association, Royal Navy and Royal Marines' Association (Northampton branch), "32" Club, British Limbless ex-Service Men's Association, People's Dispensary for Sick Animals, 31st Northampton (Shipman Home) Socut Group, Telephone Samaritans Northampton branch (all £25).

A film of the carnival, taken by Mr. R. S. Turner, with commentary by Mr. R. C. T. Dyer, was shown.
