Description

£1,375 HOSPITAL CARNIVAL CHEQUE

QUESTION OF REPRESENTATION AT COURT OF GOVERNORS

WITH a cheque for £1,375 forwarded to Northampton General Hospital, Northampton Hospital Parade and Carnival Committee have included a request for information with regard to their representation at the Hospital Court of Governors.

The committee state: "As direct and fairly substantial contributors, this organisation feels it is entitled to adequate representation, and we should be glad if you would instruct us how many nominees we are permitted to submit and when and for what period they will be elected."
The letter is signed by the chairman. Councillor Sidney Perkins; the honorary treasurers, Mr. A. E. Sparrow and Mr. K. Wright; and the hon. general secretary, Mr. W. Ken Hanning.
At Northampton General Hospital the "Chronicle and Echo" was informed that under the new rule a contribution of £1,375 would entitle the Northampton Hospital Parade and Carnival Committee to three governors - one for the first £5, a second for the next £100, and a third for the next £1,000.
It is pointed out that representation is based on the previous year's contribution and this introduces an interesting point so far as the Northampton Hospital Parade and Carnival Committee in [sic] concerned.
Last year's contribution from this committee reached the Hospital via Battle House, through the Northampton and County Hospital and Convalescent Fund.
On a rigid interpretation of the new rule the Hospital Parade and Carnival Committee might be regarded as not entitled to direct representation at the Court of Governors until next August, despite the fact that last year the Parade and Carnival committee handed the Hospital - via Battle House - the sum of £1,400.
No difficulty is expected to arise on this point, however.
