CHEQUES FOR LOCAL ORGANISATIONS

"To be talking about carnivals on a night like this seems very inappropriate but I am glad that you have braved the elements," commented the Mayor of Northampton, Alderman E. F. Tompkins, presiding at the presentation of cheques resulting from this year's carnival parade.

A total of £1,300 was given to voluntary organisations within the Borough of Northampton. The first cheque, for £250, was presented to the Mayor for his appeal for the physically handicapped by Mr. R. C. T. Dyer (carnival secretary).

After welcoming delegates from the various organisations, chairman Tompkins, who is chairman of the carnival committee, thanked the colelctors  who had taken just over £1,500 in about two hours, and the public "who give generously to any worthwhile charitable work."
